Seeing the Stars

"But I know somehow, that only when it is dark enough, can you see the stars." Martin Luther King, Jr.

I used to think....those things that happened would kill me. They cut so deep....and kept me living in hiding....like a fugitive....always on the run....not letting anyone get too close....too afraid to be found out...for the truth to be discovered....of what I had done....where I had been...what I had lived.

Now though, I can see the stars. All that stuff that happened....that drove me crazy...that kept me locked in shame - that created so much pain..... and that I thought I would never be free from - has taught me to look up and see the stars.
Those things that almost killed me....has worked to make me strong.

I want others who are still fighting the demons...to Know Hope...to know there is a way to break free...to come to the place where they too can look up when it's really dark and see the stars shining back....and know the darkness didn't consume them....

I wish those things had never happened. And I never want to go through them again.....but maybe they had a purpose....to tell others...that freedom is possible....that there is a way out.  Things aren't perfect...but it's ok. Maybe that's the difference....I just know looking back - He pulled me out from being so far down that somehow...I know....the rest will come.

So if you're still fighting...and the darkness seems too great...hold on....never give up...and Know Hope...

Beautiful post! I was reading an article in the St. Petersburg Times yesterday about a man who had fathered 30 children. He had just impregnated his 15 year old niece and had sexually abused his daughter for two years. When the daughter told on him, no one believed him. It was an incredibly sad and awful crime. How can children come forward without anyone on their side to believe them and fight for and with them? I am keeping them in my prayers. How do you help these children? What if you suspect that there is sexual abuse but the child might be too afraid to acknowledge it? How can you help them? I have suspected something odd and different about such a girl but I don't know her well enough to ask? What advice can you give?

Praise God! Your head, your face lifted up - not down afraid for others to see.

So beautiful and full of such hope.
Somehow, Sarah, your words always encourage me to keep holding the candle of hope high for others to see. I am faced with the dark daily in my sessions and just knowing you made it out encourages me that they can make it out, too.

Blessings and hugs my friend,
Tammy

Sarah,

This, my friend .... this is the most transparent post I've read in a long time. It doesn't just list the things that have victimized you. And it isn't a call for sympathy or pity.

This is a true glimpse into a healing and redeemed heart. A heart that knows and is filling with the love of Christ.

This one needs to be read by everyone who has ever struggled in any way.

Hugs and love in Jesus,
Deb

Firstly, I want to say how much I ADORE the image you chose for this post. I love the Lion King and find it very profound.

Secondly, it's very comforting to hear that someone has gone through hardships and has come out the other side. It's really hard for me to "know hope" right now, but I'm trying.

Keep holding on to hope. It's a gift.

Wishing you well,
NOS

Nicole, contact Social Services or Child Protective Services in your state if you think a child is being abused. The agency is called different names in different states. Just tell them what you think and they will decide to check it out or not. That is really all you can do.

Sarah, thank you for sharing your words of hope. Hope gives us something to cling to when we feel helpless.

You have become stronger. Those things did have a purpose and that is it. They strengthened your faith and gave you a purpose.
