Bugs

"God in His wisdom made the fly and then forgot to tell us why."
Ogden Nash "The Fly

Hearing screams, I flew downstairs. My girls stood holding each other....shaking and pointing towards the front door. "a bug...a creepy fat bug with a gizzilion legs..."
I cracked up laughing. "It's just the Easter bunny in disguise." I told them. They didn't believe me.
"Get it Ma...kill it."
"Uh uh. not me....I ain't touching it."

Bugs! Like my girls....I'm afraid of them too. I once lived in a rough part of the city.....in an apartment infested with roaches. Nighttimes were the worst. They came out in droves.....and they were big and fat...the sound of the clicking of their legs scurrying across counters, tabletops and floor made me cringe. I was really afraid....and slept with the lights on. I thought maybe the light would deter them....but it didn't. They ruled the place and since I had no money....and nowhere to go - I was stuck there.

What's even worse....are the two legged ones..the perverts....those who rape children....assualt women.....hurt the vulnerable.  They too like the dark....and live in secret...in lies and deception. So many portray themselves as good...nice...helpful...like - coaches, fathers, teachers, pastors....and even some women....Maybe I'm colored by the stuff that happened to me..

I teach my girls...to listen to their gut....that if someone looks really good....sounds really good...and tons of people are supportive of them....but something in their gut doesn't feel good....to run.

Good advice mom...In today’s world there is so much "Evil" floating around disguised as "Good" so we must always be on guard. I believe that Christians have guardian angels that look after them to let them know when danger is near. God bless, Lloyd

Just stopping by to say 'thank you' for everything you do and are but most importantly everything and every way you just 'be'! I so appreciate this blog. A lot of times I just swing by as if you were a neighbor; casually with my slippers on and a nice hot cup of tea, and I just meditate on your words soaking them into my soul slowly, meditatively thanking the good Lord for another survivor, another Sister in Christ...Thank you! You are a blessing to many and most of all...to me ;=o)

yeah, you're right. I tend to be overprotective with my kids...like everyone is a predator...

I have a funny story for you...

On one of the trips to Africa I lead, my team was deathly afraid of bugs. I didn't think the bugs were that big, because I'd seen bigger in the jungle. So after hearing them scream about bugs for a day, I was sitting in the hut trying to figure out financial stuff. I heard my girls yelling, paused, and said... "Oh, it's fine. They just found another spider".

Turns out they were yelling, "Fire"!

Amen...good advice...trust your instincts...

BTW...my youngest son...who just turned 24...still wants me to kill spiders for him...especially the long legged ones....

The heart is deceitful--but not the gut.

I need to take your advice more often.

p.s. I so don't like bugs either. Or spiders. Or snakes.

Okay, enough of that.

Sweet dreams.

This is one of my most favourite posts of yours ever. I'm going to re-post it on my blog as there is some really good stuff I'd love people to read.

Love you!

You are so great teaching them to believe in themselves. You are such a gift. Thanks for being who you are. Paula

This reminds me of the "Gift of Fear". I battle between my old stuff giving me wrong signals and rely heavily on my recovery tools mixed with the instinct & gut that have developed since going into recovery. I trust my GUT. It is unfortunate that many females are so abused that they don't even know they have a "gut". I didn't realize I had one until about 10 years ago, and then it took about 7 more years to fully develop it. I had to almost completely revert back to a child-like sensory state.

Thank you for this reminder to TRUST THAT INSTINCT. You are a blessing!

Love.

Good lesson to teach! I have no fear of bugs but have a lot of fear of rejection. Hugs x

Hi Sarah,

It's good that you teach your children about sexual predators. Informing and teaching our children is a necessary rite of passage between parent and child.

As a man, I recognize that the shameful acts of one man can cast a huge shadow on all men. That's why it's so important that children live in a secure environment which fosters open dialog (even if the roaches come out).

I'm saddened for any family that has been the victim of abuse.

May God's discernment continue to cover our children. It's hard to trust anyone knowing how evil can also pretend to be "good"...And that gut feeling...yup! Just follow it! Blessings to you sister. I'm truly awed by your courage. Take good care of yourself and be strong...in His power! I read up to "19" today...

I don't even know what to say. I have the feelings inside stirring around from your words, but it won't come out. Two legged roaches...ugh. Even more disgusting than the four legged ones. I'm so sorry! Wish I could hug you. I'm anxiously awaiting the day when I come here and hear happy music playing. I know God will bring you that happy music...

Blech. Bugs.

I hear you with the gut feeling. I had it... and no one listened to me. It's important to listen to.

Its such a hard line to walk... Ive done it with my daughters, too. I don't want to let them grow up in fear just because I did, but I also want to be certain that they never have to go through the things I did.

I remember telling my oldest, when she was about eight, that she could tell me anything. I said, if anything doesn't feel right, tell me, because I know things you can't know.
She wanted me to tell her what I knew.
I said, you'll understand when you are old enough. Just remember, you can tell me anything and I will always believe you and always be on your side.

How I wish someone would have said that to me.
