Rest...Relax

Breathe Deeply! The Snuggle Fabric Softner Bear

Relaxing is work for me....really hard work. I struggle to stay still...to let go...to veg.  I'm so used to fighting....and holding on....not letting go....fighting to overcome something or other. People tell me....go on a holiday, go relax...but I can't.....I don't think I know how.

I feel better moving....and having a goal to aim for. All my life I've had to fight....to survive...to get free....to push back against someone or something....Now - I'm not sure how to just be.

It hits me more when we go away....on holidays. As soon as I open my eyes....I want to move....run...go. My kids tell me they love the adventures they have with me. We do a ton of stuff in just one day.....but when we stop....and it's time to veg...to rest....I'm stuck...lost. I feel it in my body...the tension, the restlessness of not being able to stop or slow down - So another goal...something to work on - learning to breathe....to let go and just be!!!

Seems there is 'always' more to work on. Just about the time I am making progress in an area, something else pops up.

Just keep "keeping on". :)

I can remember this place, and healing was the answer for me to this call to rest. The yoke that Jesus speaks of that his burden is light and that we will find rest for our souls. I understand that now in a personal real life way.

Now, spurts of doing come from a lot of non doing within myself.

You are an amazing person...and where you are headed, into this place of rest...this slice of heaven on earth; is glorious.

I feel fortunate to journey with you because you chose to write. Thank you for sharing yourself.

Hi Sarah,

I can certainly identify with the urge to do something. When my wife and I vacation, I'm looking to go, go, go. She's a quiet lake and I'm volcanic activity. I'm learning to calm down. Breathing helps.

Thanks and blessings.

I totally get what you are saying here. I have been away from my destructive family for only six years but I do feel like an acceptance of the idea of relaxing is coming into view. This gives me hope for me and for you.

My wife has to always be moving as well. That's more relaxing for her than sitting in one place. I'm more the opposite, but I think it makes us good for one another. Gives us both a nice mix. Thanks!

Just being is a great thing. I have learned to do that and am happy to not be rushing about. Just vegging is good for me.

you practiced being one way for a long time. So it will take practice to be another way :)

I don't think we can ever achieve that "rest" here in this place. But to know of His wonderful promise and what lies ahead...that surely makes us breathe a little better. Take care sister. God bless you always and protect you.

This picture made me laugh. I feel like that sometimes! It's so important to keep a balance with things... rest included! You cannot be balanced if all you are doing is constant movement, even if you are balancing what you are doing. Rest is so important to our nature!!

I best relax when I sit back with a cup of hot chocolate... or out walking along the coast... or doing something energetic... Hmm, I think relaxing is a state of mind.

I pray God gives you something you love doing that is relaxing and refreshing for you. It's okay to not sit and veg if that's too hard right now.

Hugs!!

I'm one of those "if you rest you rust" types as well! My it's hard to be still and rest in Him sometimes.

Oh my I am good at resting... very much like 'dead'. Sometimes I have an adrenaline rush and I get things done and then 'flop' the engines dead. Not an once of energy left. So even when I try resting I am not truly ... simply exhausted!

Maybe a good exercise would be to sit quietly in the Lord's presence each day, like maybe 10 minutes. It might help you eventually to be able to relax more often? But I hear what you're saying. As long as we keep running, those voices and pictures can't come in, right? I think I sometimes have the opposite problem. Oppression sets in, and it leaves me paralyzed. I'm so grateful that God has extra love for those who need so much more! {{{SARAH}}}

That's not my run-of-the-mill hug either. Those look like this (( )). Nope. You're getting the best hugs I can give! {{ }}

As long as I can remember I had to do something, even leisure time was work! I thoguht soemthing is even wrong with me for not being able to relax in Yoga. During recent Intesen Trauma Therapy I learned otherwise. Doing something can be relaxing! One doesnt has to sit still to relax. However there should be a balance between relaxing in like sitting still, reading a book, hab´ving a bath with music and candles AND relaxing while doing something.
To start off I got introduced to progressive muscle relaxation. I had to DO something to relax! I love it, suddenly I understood WHY Yoga was never for me. After doing it for some weeks. I learned a short version which I could do nearly everywhere to relax me when stressed (low to middle stress, not the heavy one) at the same time I learned what I relaxing to me when I do soemthing, defining DOING and find some thigns I always wanted to do but couldnt. I choose two, one of each section. By now I can relax while I am doing something and relax while being still. You have my eMail if you want to know more... Love to you, Paula
